A guidebook to the Canary Islands

Although the Canary Islands are considerably closer to Africa, they are still considered part of Spain.

The 7 islands are located in the Atlantic,1,350 kms. south of the Iberian Penninsula Morocco is their closest neighbour (East of Fuerteventure about 95 kilometres) the weather is inviting year round. Temperatures range from 18C in winter to 24C in summer.

The Canaries are sometimes referred to as the land of the eternal spring. The climate is optimum thanks to the gulf stream and trade winds and sun can be experienced at any time of the year hence tourists are attracted with incentives of no rain what so ever. There’s little doubt why over ten million global travelers migrate to these lands annually!

There are five main hot vacation islands of the archipelago which include: La Palma,Tenerife,Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote and the two smaller unsettled islands of Hierro and Gomera.

A huge volcanic mountain range resting under the Atlantic Ocean forms the ends of these islands. The extraordinary wealth of natural beauty found in the Canary Islands is reflected by the four of Spain’s seven major national nature reserves which include the Hierro, Gomera, Lanzarote, and Fuertaventura.
