Showing Your Shar Pei Puppy

The most ancient of breeds, the Shar Pei puppy has been guarding homes and families since the early days of its inception in ancient China. Known for the large folds of skin which cover its eyes, neck, and shoulders, the Shar Pei is as good tempered and protective as he is ugly. Originally bred in China as a fighting dog, the Shar Pei is fiercely loyal to, and protective of its family members making it an excellent addition to any family with children.

And yet, as sweet-tempered as this dog may be, it would seem that few have recognized its redeeming qualities. Once named the most rare dog breed in the world, the Shar Pei puppy has only gained recognition from the American Kennel Club since 1991. But happily, the Shar Pei puppy is slowly becoming more and more sought after, as more people realize that this gentle breed’s temperament more than makes up for its unusual appearance.
The Shar Pei puppy is also a fine dog for show. Available in several different colors, from red to black to blue, many owners have found their dogs to be extremely competitive in the arena. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that their competitive nature means they enjoy the sport. Shar Pei puppies hate repetition, and are extraordinarily independent natured dogs. It is important to give your Shar Pei puppy plenty of time to do his own thing, and plenty of room to run.

If you are considering showing your new Shar Pei puppy, then you must understand that not all Shar Pei are alike. There are three different coat styles available, horse, brush and bear. But only the horse and brush coat dogs are considered show worthy. The bear coat Shar Pei puppy has such long fur, that it covers and hides the heavy folds of skin, which set this sweet dog apart from all others.
If you are looking to buy a Shar Pei puppy, then it is up to you to make certain that you only purchase your pup from a respectable breeder. You can easily find a good breeder by asking your local veterinarian to recommend one of the breeders that he or she deals with on a regular basis. This is important so that you will know your new Shar Pei puppy has had the medical attention he needs to have a long and healthy life.

There’s never been a better time to purchase a new Shar Pei puppy than now. With more and more people learning what a great dog the Shar Pei really is, there is more support now for Shar Pei puppy owners than ever before. These lovable pups make the perfect addition to any family, and with the right care, will provide you and your family with companionship for many, many years.

Shar Pei puppies are an enormous responsibility that many dog lovers are reluctant to take on. But with the proper care and treatment, a Shar Pei puppy can provide your family with years of love and affection. For anyone looking for information about the Shar Pei puppy, whether it is about their history, their care, or you just need to know how to choose Shar Pei puppy names, this article will provide what you are looking for.

  1. Hi,
what a great read, but i don’t agree with the statement were you claim these beautiful dogs are “Ugly”, they are very cute and as you point out very loyal.
As for showing the breed what should also be noted and checked with the dog show organisers prior to showing your Shar Pei, is what colors are permited as alot of the colors now being bred are dilutes (chocolate, isabella, lilac’s) etc and therfore are not deemed breed standard and can not be shown.
