Gardening, Landscaping And Getting Some Exercise

Now that spring is just about here, you may be thinking about getting out and having some fun in your garden and landscape. Planting flowers, vegetables and other perennials is a fun and rewarding task for sure. But have you thought about the exercise benefits?

Maybe you have thought about it, and maybe you have not, but landscaping is really hard work. From digging holes to pulling weeds, a lot of exercise can occur from daily gardening. In addition, you can stretch and bend if you do your own home pest control. Calling on, and utilizing exterminators like Terminix is a great idea, but wouldn’t you rather get the credit for the exercise? Keep in mind, pest control is just a fraction of the fun that awaits you in your gardening adventure!

You may not be an exercise enthusiast. In fact, you may dread the gym and hate the sight of an exercise bike. The good news is that you don’t have to be at the health club to exercise. Take up gardening and landscaping. The great thing about getting your exercise from gardening is that you will not only see physical results, but you will also reap the benefits of what you have planted.

Because gardening can be strenuous make sure you stretch before working that green thumb. Many gardeners make the mistake of spending too much time hunched over.

This is not the best thing for your aching back. Many times in the garden you will be lifting potting soil, bags or mulch and other heavy objects. That’s why it is imperative that you stretch so as not to hurt yourself.

One of the best exercises in the garden is weeding and pruning. You will burn a ton of calories pulling those weeds. You should be careful to take breaks if you are bending over all day. You don’t want to harm your back.

Exercise can also happen in the lawn itself. Mowing the grass is a great way to get some exercise. If out have a self-propelled mower try to just push the mower instead. Push mowing is wonderful exercise. If you are seeking a cardio workout, pushing a lawn mower for an hour or so will really get the heart pumping. You will also feel the burn in you arms, legs and chest.

You don’t need to go to the gym or buy expensive fitness equipment to get a great workout. Gardening offers all of the exercise you need.
